Can you believe this?

Check this out. The bottom line to this story is that a 6 year old kid got a credit card. You're probably going, 'saaay what?' Well according to The Consumerist, it did happen. 6 year old Bennett Christiansen of Aurora, IL got hooked up with a shiny new Bank of America card.

I can't believe that happened. That just goes to show that banks just want to get into more credit trouble than they are already in. If they're dishing out credit cards to everybody knowing that getting payments from these individuals will be unlikely, then that to me is just a sick degrading cycle. I think banks need to do more to filter out these individuals, and give credit to those who can pay them back to some extent. Isn't that what the credit score and credit reporting bureaus are for?

(Brag) New York to Toronto Bus Ticket for $2!

7:11 PM / Posted by Nico Atienza / comments (1)

Sorry folks, another brag! I was looking for the cheapest way to Toronto one weekend to visit my brother and my folks. I couldn't really afford to fly so I guess the only alternative was to take the bus. Taking the bus wouldn't be that bad considering I was in New York City. How far can it really be, right?

Megabus was selling a round trip ticket for like $90 (which disappeared the second time around I looked it up). The other carrier I looked up a price at was Greyhound. Oh, man. This is what I saw.

You are reading it right. A regular ticket was $170 and an advance purchase ticket was for $2! Honestly, I thought it was a computer glitch. I slept on it for a few days and called some people and told them what I saw. Most of them told me to buy it but I had my concerns about being billed differently because come on! How can it be $2? With gas prices so high? Seriously?

After a lot of thought, I finally bought the ticket. Hooray, a confirmation email arrived looking all legit. Most importantly, it claimed that I only got charged $2 for this transaction. Thank you Montana for not having sales tax! When I arrived in New York, I was anxious to get my hands on the hard copy ticket because that will be settle all my doubts.

I finally got to the Port Authority Bus Terminal and stood in line. I picked up my ticket and flipped it open. Hell yes! I got a ticket to Toronto from New York City and back for $2! For $2, this 11 hour bus ride doesn't seem all that bad now, does it? Check it out!

(Brag) Hey! I got a 120Gb portable HDD for $13!

6:56 PM / Posted by Nico Atienza / comments (0)

I've had this for a while and I finally got around to sharing this with you, or rather brag about how awesome this is! A while ago my roommate sent his laptop to the manufacturer to get it repaired. The *unnamed* computer manufacturer instructed him to ship the laptop without it's harddrive and battery.

In less than a week, voila! He got it back. He got it back with some goodies of course! Along with a brand spanking new laptop, they also shipped a test battery and a test laptop harddrive. So, now my roommate now had double of both! Naturally, I snagged myself the harddrive while he kept the battery.

Immediately after, I began looking for portable harddrive enclosures for my newest freebie. I ran across one I liked on ebay and it's starting bid was for a penny. Naturally, I bid on it and what do you know, I won the bid. Sweet, so I won the case. The bad part was that the case was being shipped from Hong Kong and I would have to wait 10 -14 days to combine my two beauties. So, I waited and waited. Oh, shipping was $12.99, which is staggering because the shipping was 1298% more than the item it was shipping.

I was out of town when it finally arrived and I was greeted by the "Hey, sorry we missed you" postcard from the USPS. I quickly biked over there and claimed my prize. I put the harddrive into the case and now they're kissing buddies.
Ladies and Gentlemen, I present to you my $13 5400rpm portable hard drive!
