Cool Websites

SpotCrime

This is an interesting mashup that plots criminal activity onto a Google map. This is a free service targeted at law enforcement and citizens in crime heavy places. I have no idea how comprehensive it is but it is still a good idea in my eyes. According to TechCrunch, the data is compiled using police reports from local precincts which takes upto 24 hours to show up on the system. I used it myself to check out the crime in New York City because that's where I'll be doing my internship in a week or so. Oh man, my girlfriend freaked out when I showed her the map of New York City with all the crime incidents on it! Check out how safe your neighborhood is!

New York is still a crazy crazy place!

YouTomb

You're probably wondering what the hell this website is all about. This is actually an experiment by some MIT students to document what kinds of websites have been taken down for various reasons (copyright) on youtube - hence the name, YouTomb. It's a sort of burial ground for all those banned videos. Unfortunately, you cannot watch the banned videos so this website is purely for documentation purposes. Nonetheless, this website make you wish you watched those banned videos before they were taken down by the man. Sigh.
