OCZ 4GB ( 2 x 2GB ) DDR2 667MHz Laptop Memory

10:51 PM / Posted by Nico Atienza / comments (0)

I've been on a major hunt for PC-5300 DDR2 memory for my Macbook because it's starting to slow down with it's current 1gb (512 x 2) configuration. I was in the middle of an Ebay bid when I ran across this. Unfortunately for me, I won the bid for an OEM 2gb (1gb x 2) configuration which meant I couldn't pursue this deal. Damn you, Ebay!

OCZ 4GB ( 2 x 2GB ) SODIMM DDR2 667MHz Laptop Memory - OCZ2MV6674GK

-4Gb capacity (2Gb x 2)
- SODIMM 677 Mhz PC-5400 Laptop Memory
-Works great on laptops and Intel Macs

Buy.com price $54.79 (after $30 mail in rebate), free shipping

Mac OS X 10.5.3 is here!

10:23 PM / Posted by Nico Atienza / comments (0)

Macheads unite! The third major update for Leopard is here. It boasts 300+ fixes but I'm guessing none of them will be super major or even noticeable because the problems they fix shouldn't have been broken in the first place!

Initial reports of this update are very promising but there are reports of come Macbooks being bricked because of this update! Say, what? Yes, that's right. This update may have a small side effect of bricking your beloved Mac. Bad, Apple, bad.

That is probably the reason why I haven't upgraded yet. I'm leaving soon and I've got a RAM upgrade on the way. I don't need to get bricked right now!

If you are one of the fearless, go ahead and do a system update and snag that update or you can download the standalone installer here. Let me know how it works people!

UPDATE: I say F-it and finally upgraded. So far everything works like it should. (Fingers Crossed)

Cool Websites

10:40 AM / Posted by Nico Atienza / comments (0)

SpotCrime

This is an interesting mashup that plots criminal activity onto a Google map. This is a free service targeted at law enforcement and citizens in crime heavy places. I have no idea how comprehensive it is but it is still a good idea in my eyes. According to TechCrunch, the data is compiled using police reports from local precincts which takes upto 24 hours to show up on the system. I used it myself to check out the crime in New York City because that's where I'll be doing my internship in a week or so. Oh man, my girlfriend freaked out when I showed her the map of New York City with all the crime incidents on it! Check out how safe your neighborhood is!

New York is still a crazy crazy place!

YouTomb

You're probably wondering what the hell this website is all about. This is actually an experiment by some MIT students to document what kinds of websites have been taken down for various reasons (copyright) on youtube - hence the name, YouTomb. It's a sort of burial ground for all those banned videos. Unfortunately, you cannot watch the banned videos so this website is purely for documentation purposes. Nonetheless, this website make you wish you watched those banned videos before they were taken down by the man. Sigh.

Unlocked iPhone, anybody?

3:23 PM / Posted by Nico Atienza / comments (0)

Well.. Cellhut is selling an unlocked 8Gb iPhone on their website. I wonder if this is the fully unlocked version they're selling in Europe. Then again, I saw this:

** All iPhone Sales are Final ** No Returns / Exchanges **
Cellhut is not responsible if the phone is relocked by any means
With that said, this is looking like a hacked one. Who knows. You're paying a pretty penny for it too. With that 3G iPhone slated to come out soon, I'm not sure if you want to waste your money on this. It could even get cheaper for all I know.

You Give Me, I Give You

Hey People! What's going on? I just finished my only final which means the Spring '08 semester is officially in the books! Yippee! It's going to be a long summer, but I'm looking forward to it.

Grand Theft Auto IV rocked the whole world last week. I'm not even kidding. I just went over to my buddy's house to play it and it was ridiculous. I was running around snapping pictures with my camera phone and shooting out tires. Running around assassinating people never looked this good. This game is truly one of the year's best. Here's your chance to snag it with a nice little reward. I thought I had a deal for it but apparently it expired. Damn you Circuit City.

Instead, what I have for you today is a nice little deal for a Wii Fit Preorder.

Wii Fit (Preorder) w/ Bonus $10 Online Gift Card

Walmart Price $89.74, free in store pickup with $10 GC

Apparently, there are some Nintendo Wii Customer Choice Bundles in stock at Wal-Mart. I see the usual 'Quantities are Limited' spiel. Jesus Christ, these things are harder to spot than sasquatch. If you haven't snagged one yet, I suggest you do. Don't be tempted to buy it more than the $250 retail. Paying any more than retail is simply a ripoff. Just be patient and wait for the stores to stock up.
